    • Welcome to Helping Relationships!

      We hope you will have a wonderful time and learn a lot about principles of professional helping relationship, the roles of professional helper, helping theories, models and process, helping strategies, and related issues in helping. This course will be delivered through lectures, discussion, forum and case study.

       

       


      Course Information

      By the end of the course you should be able to...   

      • Examine basic elements and principles of helping relationships, principles of professional helping relationship, and roles of professional helper. 
      • Differentiate the various helping theories, models, and process. 
      • Explain the helping strategies and issues related to helping. 
      • Demonstrate knowledge and information essential to effective professional helping.

      Azzahrah Annuar, PhD

      Azzahrah currently serves as Program Coordinator of the Counseling Program at the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. She received her M.Sc. Degree in Rehabilitation Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Madison and was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Rehabilitation from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, United States. Much of her work is devoted to various disciplines including counselor education, ethics and legality in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, disability attitudes, and disability accommodations. Apart from academia, she is also an appointed member of Drug Rehabilitation Committee of Kuching Branch and actively assisting the National Antidrug Agency (AADK) through rehabilitation program for the client. She has also involved in training the volunteers for Pusat Bimbingan Wanita Nur HIKMAH Kuching.



      Amalia Madihie, PhD

      Amalia Madihie, PhD is a senior lecturer from Department of Counselling at the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Malaysia. In 2004, Amalia obtained her counselling license and certificate of practitioner from the Malaysian Counsellor Board. Amalia pursued her studies at Lee University, Tennessee USA for Master of Science in Professional Counselling (2004) and PhD in Guidance & Counselling at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia.



      Samsiah Jayos

      Samsiah Jayos is a registered professional counsellor and a doctoral candidate in Counselling program at University Technology Malaysia (UTM). She receives her Master in Counselling from the University of Malaya (UM) in 2005. She is currently a Lecturer at the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FCSHD). She has conducted talks for workers, community members, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and school students in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia. Samsiah has an ongoing interest in family and spiritual and Islamic counselling and dakwah for muslim reverts. She actively involves in various community service programs organized by the public agencies and NGOs as volunteer and professional counsellor.



      Salmah Mohamad Yusoff

      Salmah Mohamad Yusoff is a lecturer at the Department of Counselling , Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development , Universiti Malaysia Sarawak . Salmah pursued her studies at Universiti Putra Malaysia and obtained Master Science (Guidance and Counselling) in 2006. She had working experience as a school counsellor before joining UNIMAS as an academician. As an lecturer, she combine both face to face learning with e-learning. She is interested on counselor education, group work intervention, teaching and e-learning research.  You can also visit her blog salmahyusoff.blogspot.my.



      Nor Mazlina Ghazali, PhD

      Dr Nor Mazlina Ghazali is a registered professional counsellor and graduated with a Ph.D. in Guidance and Counselling from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She received her Master in Human Services Counselling from the Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia in 2008. Nor Mazlina also holds a lecturer position and teaches at the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Her area of expertise includes supervision counselling and domestic violence. Her professional experiences include providing counselling services to schools, public organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Sarawak. Nor Mazlina is an active member of Drug Rehabilitation Committee of Kuching Branch. She is very passionate in counselling and willing to work with client from diverse backgrounds for personal and professional growth.



      Edris Aden

      Mr Edris Aden is a lecturer at the Department of Counselling, Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, UNIMAS. Edris is an appointed committee member of the Malaysian Board of Counselors since 2014. Edris is actively involved with the community, and in the counseling research and consultation. Edris has conducted series of motivational talks and he was invited to speak on a radio show entitled “Cermin Diri” at Radio Sarawak (88.9fm). He has also been involved with the primary and secondary school students to give awareness on career. In addition, he is a certified Neuro Linguistic Program (NLP) coach and trainer.



      Merikan Aren

      Mr. Merikan Aren is a lecturer at the Department of Counseling, Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development. He is a registered professional counsellor and certified assistant medical officer. He has over 17 years of working experiences as a Senior Assistant Medical Officer at different health care settings administered by the Ministry Of Health. He is also a Certified Practitioner in Creative Expressive Arts Therapy Skills. Merikan involves actively in the voluntary work and community service program organized by the public agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). He has conducted several workshops, seminars, and courses in Health Counseling, Creative Expressive Arts Therapy, Team Building, Leadership, and Personal Development.
