
This course explores various texts taken from media materials such as newspapers/online news, magazines and advertisements/brochures. This course looks at the language forms and structures of these texts and also the different writing styles. In addition, this course raises awareness of cultural and current issues pertaining to society concerns as a whole that may be embedded in the context. This is to assist students to understand various writing styles that will facilitate them in building their language knowledge and skills in English

Kursus ini menerangkan sistem bahasa Iban dari segi sebutan, perkataan,
makna, ayat, sistem sapaan dan budaya dalam kalangan masyarakat Iban.
Kursus ini akan dijalankan dalam Bahasa Melayu, namun begitu bahan-bahan pembelajaran akan disediakan dalam bentuk terjemahan Bahasa Inggeris juga. Oleh itu, sama-sama kita pelajari bahasa Iban, bahasa ibunda etnik terbesar di Sarawak.

The course introduces students to the use of the English language for self- expression both in oral and written forms. It develops students’ fluency and confidence in using the language through their engagement in critical and creative activities such as critique and dramatisation. Students will be taught various forms of the language to communicate their ideas and opinions effectively.

This course will be delivered in the target language (Malay and also Sarawak Malay Dialect). However, subtitles and content in English are also provided for speakers who do not understand Malay. The course covers common words and phrases in Sarawak Malay Dialect, which is different from the standard Malay. It includes phrases related to daily conversations, pronouns, occupations, food and hobbies.
